Across from the Greenville Town Common lies River Park North, a 324-acre nature park with many amenities to enjoy and room to explore! River Park North features 5 ponds and 2 fishing piers, kayak and peddle boat rentals, primitive and drive-up campsites, hiking trails, a fossil pit, picnic shelters with grills, and a sand volleyball court. If that isn't enough, enjoy an afternoon at River Park North’s Walter L. Stasavich Science and Nature Center. Walter L. Stasavich Science & Nature Center

The Walker L. Stasavich Science and Nature Center is a wonderful opportunity for learning more about the flora and fauna, geology and geography, and more of Eastern NC! This education center features a 70-seat theater, a 10,000-gallon freshwater aquarium, live turtles and snakes, wildlife dioramas and the “Shells Are Everywhere” exhibit. There are also several hands-on/interactive exhibits to enjoy. Schools, scouts, organizations, and other groups groups may call in advance to schedule a visit. Boating

River Park North is the perfect place to drop in your boat, kayak, or paddleboard for a day on the water. If you still want to experience life on the water, but don't have your own boat, you can rent jon-boats, kayaks, and peddle-boats at River Park North! Birding

Did you know that River Park North is part of the NC Birding Trail? While you can find a wide range of flora and fauna all over the park, many visitors come to see prothonotary warblers, a variety of waterfowl, and Great blue herons. if you're lucky, you may have an osprey or bald eagle sighting while exploring!

Camping

River Park North offers a variety of campsites for any occasion, find group campsites complete with a shelter and fire pit, 2 drive-up campsites, and 3 primitive campsites along the Tar River. Primitive sites are located close to an area where campers can easily access the Tar river via canoe, kayak, or a 1.2 mile hike from the front of the park. Drive-to sites near the front of the park are also available. You can also find one of the 4 Pamlico-Tar Water Trail campsites here, and we think River Park North is an ideal spot to stop on rest on a multi-day paddle!
